Using this site
krun.ch is a free, plain-language reference about file compression, together with a small set of tools that run in your browser. By using the site you agree to the terms set out below. They are written to be clear rather than clever; if anything here is unclear, the contact page explains how to ask.
The tools are provided as they are
The zip, unzip, compression-calculator and file-checksum tools are offered free of charge and without any guarantee. They are designed to work reliably in current browsers, but they are provided “as is”, with no warranty that they will suit a particular purpose or be free of every fault. Because the tools process your files inside your own browser, you remain responsible for keeping your own copies. Always retain the original of any important file before creating or extracting an archive, so that nothing is lost if a process is interrupted.
Your responsibilities
You agree to use the site and its tools lawfully and only with files you have the right to handle. You are responsible for the files you choose to process and for checking the result before relying on it. The site must not be used in any way that interferes with its operation or with other people’s use of it.
Information, not professional advice
The guides aim to be accurate and current, but they describe general behaviour across many tools and systems and cannot account for every program or configuration. They are offered as helpful information, not as professional or legal advice. Format names such as ZIP, RAR and 7z refer to the formats themselves and remain the trademarks of their respective owners, used here only to identify those formats.

The text, guides and original graphics on krun.ch belong to the site’s operator unless stated otherwise. Short quotations with a link back to the source are welcome, and links to any page are always fine. Copying whole guides to republish them elsewhere is not.
